My Roots & Path
Felicia De La Garza Mercer, Ph.D.
I’m a third-generation Tejana, clinical psychologist, and practitioner of Mesoamerican-based healing traditions. My work brings together 20 years of psychological training and practice with ancestral, intuitive, and earth-centered approaches to support deep emotional and spiritual connection. My ancestral roots are primarily Indigenous Mexican, with additional lineages from Celtic/Gaulish, Iberian, Eastern Mediterranean, North African and Nordic peoples. These diverse origins inform my practice and deepen my connection to the healing traditions I carry.
Since childhood, I have been sensitive to the unseen dimensions of life — guided by intuition, dreams, and a sensitivity to the energy that lives within and around us. I started reading Tarot and major spiritual texts when I was 11-years-old, and I knew even then that my purpose in life was to help others. These gifts were passed down through the indigenous medicina of my lineage, alongside years of training with spiritual mentors. My professional path as a psychologist has given me the privilege of helping others navigate trauma, loss, and change. Over time, I felt called to expand this work — to include the spiritual and ancestral aspects of healing that often go unspoken but are deeply felt.
In my healing practice, I draw from curanderismo, ancestral wisdom, and my own intuition to help individuals reconnect with their essence and reclaim the parts of themselves that have been fragmented through trauma or susto (soul loss). I see healing as a process of integration — bringing together both the light and the shadow aspects of the self in a way that restores balance and vitality.
While I hold the lens of a psychologist, the work I offer here is not psychotherapy. It is spiritual and energetic. I believe that there is a spiritual/energetic field that exists alongside the physical world, and I act as a spiritual “intermediary” between the worlds.

My Approach
My work is rooted in the understanding that healing occurs on many levels — emotional, physical, spiritual, and ancestral. Each session is a collaboration between you, your spirit, your ancestors, and the Mexica healing traditions that guide my practice.
We begin with a plática, a heart-centered conversation that allows me to listen deeply and understand what you are experiencing. During this dialogue, I attune to your story and energy, receiving insight into the areas of your being that may be spiritually blocked or in need of attention.
From there, I am guided toward the healing methods that will best support your process. A session may include a limpia (spiritual cleansing), soul retrieval (recuperación del alma), and communication with ancestors or guides. I may also work with sacred tools, prayer, and elements of nature to assist in this process, occasionally entering a trance-like or altered state to access deeper layers of insight. I also like to integrate Tarot as a way to explore unhelpful patterns, emotional blocks and what may help in your healing process.
I enjoy helping clients develop deeper relationships with their ancestors and guides by teaching practices such as altar creation, incorporating herbs and plants into their holistic routines, and strengthening their connection to the natural world. My aim is to support them in living more fully in alignment with their spiritual values. For those invested in deepening their spiritual journey, several sessions over time may be the most helpful.
